Volkswagen Overview:
The folks at Volkswagen have been busy over the past year. For 2009, VW introduces four new cars: Tiguan SUV, Routan minivan, Jetta TDI and Passat CC. The Tiguan, a small SUV is VW’s answer to the Honda CR-V and Toyota RAV4, but with more off-road capability. The Routan is VW’s first minivan and is built with Chrysler mechanicals and VW styling. The Routan is as versatile and safe as it is powerful. The Passat CC takes VW’s popular model, the Passat sedan and gives it coupelike styling. The Passat CC has both Sport and Luxury trims and features a 3.6-liter, 280-horsepower VR6 engine. The compact Jetta TDI sedan runs on diesel and estimates to get 38 MPG in the city and 44 MPG on the highway with a range of more than 600 miles between fill-ups. The performance-oriented GLI sport sedan, based on the Jetta, features a turbocharged four-cylinder engine with additional horsepower, sharper handling and a lowered ride height. The ultimate pocket rocket, the GTI hatchback is a hot-rod version of the two-door Rabbit. It features the same turbo engine, transmissions, and suspension components as the GLI sedan. Likewise, Volkswagen's high-performance flagship model - the R32 hatchback boasts a 250-horsepower 6-cylinder engine, 4Motion all-wheel drive and an amazing engine sound.
The best selling compact Jetta sedan embodies VW’s sleek and unique styling and several trim levels as well as a SportWagen version. The full-size Passat offers a turbocharged 4-cylinder or V-6 engine and is offered as both a sedan and wagon with front- and all-wheel drive available. The sexy Eos convertible has established its own niche as a compact, four-seat retractable-hardtop convertible with an integrated panoramic sunroof. Its four trim levels have been renamed and include interior additions and leather trim upgrades. The Eos drops its optional V-6 for 2009. After getting significant restyling last year, the capable Touareg 2 SUV virtually stays the same in 2009. Like its predecessor, this five-seat midsize SUV comes with standard all-wheel drive and a choice of V-6 or V-8 engines and offers amazing off-road capability on a variety of terrains. The turbodiesel V-10 engine has been discontinued. The adorable New Beetle is probably the most unique car on the road today. The compact New Beetle gets decent mileage and is synonymous with youthful styling. The New Beetle has alternative options and reshuffled trim levels available for its hatchback and convertible models. The Rabbit compact hatchback is available in two- or four-door body styles and has 170-horsepower on tap. All models are now available in only one trim level - the Rabbit S. |
